Community Council Spring Clean

26 volunteers took part in the Galashiels Community Council Spring Clean, including family groups, Rotarians, the Rugby Club, the Church of Latter Day Saints and the Old Gala House Gardening Group. The volunteers covered areas between Wood Street and Netherdale and collected over 60 bin bags of rubbish weighing about 300 kg. Other items recovered included 3 supermarket trolleys, 3 traffic cones, 2 car tyres, a bull-bar for a 4×4, and an aggregate bag.

The Old Gala House Gardening Group were part of the team clearing the area around the Raid Stane and sections of Netherdale Industrial Estate. A spokesman (Johnny Gray) said “The area looks a lot tidier now, and hopefully it will remain so through the summer”.

The event organiser, Claire Howden said “Inspite of the rain we got a good turn-out of volunteers. The Community Council are very grateful to them for their efforts, to SBC for the uplift and disposal of the rubbish, and to everyone who supported the event”.
